Following representations by Maldon and Dengie CAMRA to Maldon District Council on the 25th of August the Compasses at Gt. Totham has now had its Asset of Community Value (ACV) reinstated, (for the 3rd time!) Valid from the 5th of November the listing should remain in place for a period of 5 years - unless heaven forbid, successfully appealed again.

The previous listing was rescinded by the Council, following an appeal by the freeholder to the second listing.  At our meeting with the Council we suggested that much of the infromation in the freeholder's appeal may have been out of date and or incorrect, we were  not party the basis of the appeal - if it replicated the information in the freeholder's planning application(s) to build on the site.

We also suggested that we should have the right to have a voice in any such appeal process and asked they approached external agencies for opinion on this.

Having done so, the Council considered our 3rd application, ignoring all previous listing history and granted it.

A full reconsideration of the ACV review (appeal) process is to be undertaken by the Council, to ensure that their whole process is fully robust. Our further input has been requested.

Needless to say Licensees Alex and Hayley are delighted with the outcome and the protection this listing brings.
